The Delivery of an Experimental Irradiator for CERN

 

The GIF++ department in CERN research workplace is designed in accordance with the requirements of the experiments in LHC (Large Hadron Collider – the largest and most powerful particle accelerator in the world) and further potential users.

The GIF++ station will also be used for testing the reactions of muon detectors sLHC (super LHC) in challenging environment with strong gamma radiation in the background.

The irradiator with the Cs-137 source for the GIF++ station manufactured by VF provides homogenous gamma radiation on the vertical surface, approximately 7.5 m wide and 4 m high, at a distance of 5 m through a front part of the source.

The secondary collimator positioned in the opposite direction provides a spherically uncorrected point, approximately 2.6 m, at a distance of 7 m.
