The Modernisation of Liquid and Gaseous Effluents Monitoring Systems in the Kozloduy Nuclear Power Plant

 

The modernisation of the radiation control systems of gaseous and liquid effluents in the Kozloduy NPP took place in two separate projects carried out by VF.

The goal of the first project was the modernisation of an existing system in nuclear blocks 1-4, and its optimisation for the effluents environmental impact control during the decommissioning of these blocks (from shutdown to their safe disposal).

The second project complemented the gaseous effluent monitoring system in the ventilation stacks of nuclear blocks no. 5 and 6 and in the auxiliary operations building by balance measurement of the radionuclide-specific activity of radioactive noble gases.

 

1. HLG10 project – Optimisation of the EFFLUENT monitoring system of the Kozloduy NPP

The scope of deliveries within the project

  • New pipeline routes for air sampling in the VK1 and VK2 ventilation stacks
  • Equipment for continuous, representative, isokinetic and proportional aerosol collection – BOA-80 aerosol samplers
  • Equipment for periodic quantitative sampling of Kr-85 collected in a Marinelli-type vessel – VP-2000 samplers
  • Equipment for continuous proportional H-3 and C-14 sampling – V3H14C samplers and DJ-500 desorption units
  • Equipment for continuous airflow measurement in ventilation stacks
  • Modernisation of in-situ liquid discharges’ monitoring system – new LES-WS3T wastewater stations
  • A computer system for data collection and management, including a database server, operator workstations, a service laptop and corresponding software
  • Equipment and devices for laboratory sample analysis
  • A set of spare parts

 

Performed work and provided services

  • The elaboration of detailed project documentation, including isokinetic and pipeline factor calculations of the sampling paths
  • Acceptance test method development
  • The elaboration of accompanying technical documentation, including operating and maintenance instructions
  • Production and acceptance testing on the contractor’s premises
  • Equipment certification
  • The delivery of all equipment to the Kozloduy NPP
  • System installation and commissioning
  • Initial metrological verification
  • End-user support during licensing
  • End-user personnel training
  • Acceptance testing at the installation site and commissioning
  • The elaboration of the actual sate documentation
  • Ensuring supply of spare parts for both warranty and post warranty servicing

 

 

2. The delivery and installation of an automated system for the determination of radionuclide composition radioactive noble gases’ concentration in the ventilation stacks in EB 5 and 6 and BAPP 3

Within the framework of the project, a radioactive noble gas activity measuring system in the operating ventilation stacks of the Kozloduy NPP was modernised to comply with the recommendations of the European Commission’s EURATOM.

The scope of delivery

  • A new pipeline for air collection
  • Five pieces of noble gas monitors with gamma spectrometry – NGM-2000 devices
  • A computer system for data collection and management, including a database server, operator workstations, a service laptop and corresponding software
  • A set of spare parts
